Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen wins at the Mexico City Architecture Biennial

The tourist development by Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos in Playa del Carmen won the Silver Medal at the third Mexico City Architecture Biennial, an event to celebrate the most significant architectural design in the Mexican capital.

Last November 23, the awards ceremony for the third Mexico City Architecture Biennial, organized by the Mexico City College of Architects and the Society of Mexican Architects, was held in the Jardín Ponsá to present awards to the most outstanding Mexican buildings of the past two years, together with the CAM-SAM Awards 2017.

From 145 competing projects, Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen won the Silver Medal in the Tourism category, the highest award in the category. The project directors, Andrés Cajiga (Architecture) and Nadia Borrás (Interior Design) represented the studio to receive the award and the trophy designed by Mexican sculptor Enrique Espinosa Fernández.

The jury for this year was made up of the architects Jorge Vázquez del Mercado, José Grinberg, Oscar Sanginés, Antonio Gallardo and Augusto F. Álvarez.

We would like to express our gratitude for this distinction and congratulate the other winners this year for the architectural quality of their work.
