With the aim of expanding the options and spaces dedicated to culture in the capital of our country, Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos together with the civil association
In response to the demand for quality spaces of this nature, several years ago Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos began to design Artz Pedregal, a mixed-use complex located in the heart of southern Mexico City. It is set in fully urban surroundings on a 50,500-square-meter site adjacent to major urban freeways.
After a series of analyses and in the knowledge that there is a shortage of quality public spaces in the city, the central concept of Artz Pedregal was built around the creation of a large public park at the heart of the development. At 5,000 square meters, it was designed as the complex’s primordial space with abundant vegetation, green walkways, plazas and water pools that achieve a sensation of isolation and tranquility in the open air.
With this new project, Artz Pedregal will become a generator of cultural experiences, integrating into the central park a building dedicated to exhibitions of contemporary international art. Espacio Arte Abierto is conceived as a rectangular volume that appears to levitate over a large water body due to its mirror cladding.
It is a continuous, clear and public space that blurs the boundaries between inside and outside. The built surface area of the pavilion is 750 square meters, and it includes all the elements required to display any type of work in line with international exhibition design standards.
