Jorge Gerini
Urban Design Director

Jorge Gerini was born in Guadalajara in 1982. He studied Architecture at the Universidad de Guadalajara, graduating in 2009. He went on to study a Master’s in Sustainable Urbanism at the Bartlett School of Planning at UCL in the UK, graduating in 2013.

Passionate about cities and about finding new ways of implementing sustainable strategies in everyday life, and with notable professional experience in city planning, he joined Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos in 2018 to develop and expand the urbanism department. He is currently Director of Urbanism and leads urban projects on different scales across cities both in Mexico and abroad.

Prior to joining SMA, during his period in London he worked from 2013 to 2015 as planning architect at the architecture studio focused on zero carbon emissions Zedfactory, participating in a number of projects in China, Holland and the United Kingdom, as well as master plans for Sao Paulo and Somalia.

Subsequently, from 2015 to 2017, he worked with the leading studio AECOM in their urbanism and economy department, focusing on projects in Saudi Arabia and Palestine and sustainable master plans for the University of Cambridge and urban regeneration for the city of London.

Since 2016, Jorge has lived in Mexico City. In that year, he embarked on a partnership with the PROCDMX office on a project entitled Urban Productivity, which analyzed areas with potential for urban, economic and social development using the Public-Private Partnership model.
